Coronavirus: stagione tennistica a rischio?

Continua a crescere il numero di eventi tennistici annullati a causa del Coronavirus. Una questione attualmente non associabile all’Atp Tour, in quanto, finora, non si sono avute defezioni nel calendario ma il problema è già fortemente presente a livello Challenger/ITF. Partendo dalle notizie nostrane, ieri è stata difatti resa nota la cancellazione della ventunesima edizione del Challenger di Barletta, in un primo momento rinviata a luglio e successivamente cancellata a causa del rifiuto da parte del C.T. Barletta di giocare in quel periodo dell’anno. Ad essa va ad aggiungersi la cancellazione di tutti e 12 i tornei in programma dal 23 marzo al 4 maggio a Santa Margherita di Pula, tappa tipica per molti tennisti azzurri nel periodo primaverile. Alle situazioni strettamente legate ai nostri confini bisogna addizionare ovviamente anche il rinvio del Challenger di Madrid, in programma originariamente dal 23 marzo e spostato ad ottobre, e le situazione riguardanti tornei appartenenti alle zone più colpite dal Coronavirus, ossia la Cina e la Corea del Sud. Difatti è stato già cancellato il Challenger di Anning, in programma nella penultima settimana di aprile e sono stati rinviati ad agosto tre Challenger sudcoreani (Seoul, Busan e Gwangju) programmati in origine fra aprile e maggio. Infine annullati anche i due ITF ad Honk Hong (maschile e femminile), che si sarebbero dovuti disputare nell’ultima settimana di maggio. Non va di certo meglio al circuito WTA. Sono stati difatti esclusi dal calendario il torneo 125k di Anning e quello di Xi’ an, che potrebbero essere gli apripista di una serie di esclusioni eccellenti nel calendario. Una situazione, perciò, sempre più difficile che, come detto, riguarda da vicinissimo anche il nostro Paese ed è proprio per questo che gli appassionati di tennis si chiedono cosa potrebbe succedere se ci dovessero essere esclusioni importanti a livello WTA e ATP. Ad oggi è complesso dare una risposta, in quanto bisogna monitorare la situazione di ogni singolo torneo per ciò che concerne la sicurezza ma è chiaro che se ci dovessero essere defezioni pesanti nei due calendari tennistici potrebbe esserci il serio rischio di chiudere anzitempo la stagione 2020.
